Joanna will share her experience as a Bruja and spiritual practitioner on how to honor your ancestors and create an altar for those who wish to connect with their spirits.

I'm Joanna Lydia, a Puertorriqueña from New York, founder of Brujas of NYC. I am a Visual Artist, Content Creator, Espiritista + Bruja. Created in 2019, BONYC is rooted in Latinx Culture, Wellness + Spirituality; birthed to help empower others on a soul level. Committed to my life's path, my vision is to bring like-minded people together, elevate as a collective and to be a voice that celebrates humans in every kind of way; speaking a love language that cheers on my fellow brujas and brujos – as friend, mentor, and spiritual guidance.

Blending personal experience as a spiritualist and intuitive healer, I want to help teach others through experience + knowledge. This workshop will do just that; it will help participants jumpstart their connection with their Ancestors and learn how to honor them with simple steps. In this workshop, I will share my personal tips, book recommendations, list tools you need to get started and lastly, how to create your own sacred space.

4pm: Breaking the Shackles of Trauma | Using Herbs to Assist in Healing Trauma

Host: Nadine Smiley

Using self-regulation techniques, herbal remedies, and plant medicine to help heal trauma and remove the energetic charge associated with it.

Trauma intrudes on our lives because we aren't taught how to address and heal those wounds on an energetic level. We aren't taught how to calm our nervous system in response to the traumatic stimuli. Breaking the Shackles of Trauma workshop teaches attendees just that and more! Through the teaching of self-regulation exercises, this leaves attendees knowing how to apply this technique for any stressful events in their lives.

Also taught during this workshop are herbal remedies and herbal self-care products and recipes to help support the Self through this journey. Herbal formulas like self-care oil, After-tears refreshing tonic, Self-love elixir, and more are shared to remind attendees through the journey, “Don't forget to love yourself.”

In this workshop, we will look at writing as a magical process and a form of ritual. The power of the word has been a part of every human culture since the beginning of humanity. Whether through priests, storytellers, poets or spellcrafters, words help us to order and reorder the realities in which we live. Through the use of prompts, we will look at the words that surround our everyday lives and use writing to transform these words by digging through our inner archives, setting new intentions, and manifesting a new appreciation for our lives. This workshop will be part of series of workshops leading to the publication of the Magic Zigns & Vision Binders guided journal.

4pm: Altered States | Herbs for Mental Health

Host: Nadine Rosario

Nadine will discuss how herbs can assist the body to adapt to mental and physical stress, identify six accessible herbs that can assist you on your mental health journey, and go over the Western and Eastern functions of select herbs.

Talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and medication can all be wonderful treatments that help remedy issues pertaining to mental health. However, these resources are not available to everyone. Many people do not have access to medical attention because they do not have health insurance. Additionally, social distancing prevents us from seeking out medical attention in person.

Many physical ailments need some time to heal, but herbs can often affect us almost instantaneously. A big reason to choose herbs is because many herbs don't suppress our emotional systems; they help us react and respond to stress in healthier ways, unlike the many pharmaceutical mood stabilisers or SSRI’s that numb us.

The herbal route can help us integrate our mental states as we move through our learning process of self. They can help heal our symptoms instead of hiding them. Western medicine is a helpful technology, but without access to it, or even prior to it, people took steps to manage their own health as an expression of personal power instead of handing their care to “experts'' who have no connection to the lineage of ancestral community-based healers who were operating outside the patriarchal system of career advancement and monetary gain.

5pm: Shamanic Soothing Session

Host: Mikki Baloy

Relieve anxiety and release heavy energy with guided meditation, rattle healing, and medicine songs in a peaceful group shamanic session. Please be in a comfortable, private space where you can lay down and receive. A brief orientation will start our time together.

Mikki Baloy has been practicing shamanic healing for over a decade. She has studied with shamans, ritual-keepers, and mystics from around the world, including Peru, Mexico, Native North America, West Africa, Tibet, Ireland, and the Philippines, as well as with Western-minded teachers and peers. She is the author of "Hallowed Underground: Sacred Hope and Healing in Dark Times," and has just completed a new book based on shamanic journeys with Mother Mary. Mikki offers private healing sessions, rites of passage and weddings, and retreat and workshop experiences for modern people called to grounded spiritual explorations.

Soothing Sessions are half-hour offerings intended to settle our nervous systems, create sacred space for connection, and allow our intuition to flow during these unusual times. There is minimal conversation and the prayers offered are general blessings for well-being, comfort, and resilience.
